Plastic Bag Aprons

Plastic Bag Aprons

Aprons are a great way to repurpose plastic bags. Unlike cloth aprons, it will only take a quick wipe to remove spills and stains. A full-sized apron can make a great long-term project. Or, consider a half-apron if you’re looking for a less time-intensive undertaking.

For the apron featured here, we used Simplicity pattern 3544 and sewed as directed. Most traditional sewing techniques can be transferred to sewing with plastic, but patterns with excessive ruching could be tricky. Ruching is possible, and this pattern includes small sections of gathering where the ties attach to the apron. However, patterns with ruching all around the waist, for example, may be best avoided as plastic is bulkier than traditional fabric.
